With matte and low-luster finished natural stone surfaces, it is recommended that the surface be cleaned and sealed every 12 to 18 months. This will prevent heavy buildup and discoloration to the surface and help keep the stone and its grout at its optimal appearance. This process entails a machine cleaning the surface using intensive stone cleaner and a poly grit brush deep cleaning the stone and grout. The surface is then thoroughly rinsed, air dried, and a penetrating sealer is then applied. The sealer helps protect the stone surface from etching, helps prevent the grout from becoming easily soiled, and allows for easy cleaning. For polished surfaces, a liquid polishing application is done by spraying a product onto the surface and buffing it using a floor machine and steel wool. This process is repeated until the desired results are achieved. The surface would then be sealed with a penetrating sealer.
Cleaning the sealed tile and grout is something that is recommended to do periodically. Typically, every couple of years. This will prevent the grout from getting heavily soiled and potentially discoloring the grout even after a deep cleaning. In this process, we use our penetrating tile and grout cleaner and a stiff bristle grit brush. We clean the grout joints thoroughly by hand, repeating the cleaning process until the surface and the grout joints are no longer showing signs of any soiling in them. We then rinse the floor thoroughly, air-dry the surface, and seal the grout joints using a penetrating sealer. It takes 48 hours for the sealer to completely cure.
This process is used when the marble or natural stone is badly worn or if you are looking to change the appearance of the surface finish. It requires a series of diamond refinishing processes using diamond polishing pads. The surface is then compound polished using a specific polishing compound to create the desired finish. The surface is then sealed using a penetrating sealer.
